What Kind of Condition Is It?

Not every mark is the same category.

Setting expectations starts with knowing what category a visible condition falls into. These categories cannot be diagnosed from text alone — an on-site look, and sometimes a small test area, is what tells us where a specific surface actually sits.

Irrigation / Sprinkler Rust Staining

Orange to reddish staining on concrete, masonry, or stone caused by iron-bearing water reaching a surface through sprinklers or runoff. What is visible is a stain — how it responds depends on substrate, porosity, age of the staining, and the source.

Calcium & Mineral Deposits

White or grayish crusty buildup where mineral-heavy water evaporates on a surface — commonly seen on glass near irrigation, on pool-deck stone, and on masonry below downspouts.

Hard-Water Spotting

Round or streaked spotting from mineral-heavy water drying on glass and other smooth surfaces. Some spotting is a surface deposit; older spotting may have progressed into the surface itself.

Efflorescence-Like Deposits

Whitish deposits that appear on masonry, brick, stucco, or concrete as moisture moves through the material and leaves minerals behind at the surface. Response depends on the substrate and the underlying moisture condition.

Glass Etching

When mineral-laden water sits on glass long enough, spotting can progress into etching — a change in the glass surface itself. Etching is not a stain sitting on the glass; it is a change in the glass and is a separate assessment.

Stone / Concrete Surface Damage

Pitting, spalling, or coating failure on stone or concrete is a change in the material or its coating, not a deposit that can be washed off. This is called out as its own category so expectations are set correctly.

Masonry & Stucco Walls

Natural Stone

Limestone, flagstone, and other natural stone surfaces are highly variable — some respond well to targeted treatment; others are sensitive to method and product selection.

Pavers

Method Selection

More pressure is not automatically the answer.

On concrete, stone, glass, and coated surfaces, cranking up pressure often does not address the underlying deposit, and it can cause visible damage to the surface — etching, pitting, coating failure, or a permanent difference in appearance from adjacent areas. Specialty deposits typically respond to a combination of product selection, dwell, dilution, and controlled rinse rather than to pressure alone.

This is why rust and calcium work is scoped separately from routine hardscape cleaning. Where routine cleaning is what is actually needed, the pressure cleaning page is the right starting point.

Test-Area & Assessment

The substrate tells us what is reasonable to expect.

Because response depends on many factors, a small test area is often used before committing to full-scope work. The test area is the honest way to answer "how much of this will come out?" without guessing.

Substrate

Concrete, brick, stucco, limestone, flagstone, pavers, and glass all respond differently to any treatment approach.

Finish & Coating

Prior sealer, paint, coating, or previous treatments influence what is appropriate and what could cause harm.

Age & Source of Staining

How long a staining condition has been present, and whether the source is ongoing, materially affects what a treatment can be expected to do.

Porosity

Porous substrates absorb staining differently from dense or sealed surfaces. Deeply absorbed staining is a different assessment from a fresh surface deposit.

Previous Treatments

If the area has been treated before with an unknown product, that history is a factor. Prior chemistry can affect what a new approach will do.

Adjacent Materials

Nearby metals, painted surfaces, glass, coatings, and landscaping are considered so they can be protected as part of the scope.

Drainage & Runoff

Where water travels during and after the work influences product selection, sequencing, and any protective steps needed for storm inlets, plants, and adjacent property.

Weather

Temperature, humidity, and expected rainfall all affect how any specialty approach performs on the day of the work.

Possible Limitations

Honest limits set expectations correctly.

Shadowing After Treatment

Even where visible deposits are reduced, a shadow of the prior staining may remain on some substrates. This is common and is called out as a possible outcome, not a defect.

Permanent Etching

Where mineral deposits have progressed into etching — of glass or of the surface of natural stone — the change is in the material itself. Cleaning cannot reverse etching.

Coating Damage

Existing coatings that are already failing may show that failure more clearly after cleaning. Prior coating condition is noted before scheduling where visible.

Color Variation

Cleaned areas can look different from surrounding untreated areas, especially on aged concrete or stone. Scope boundaries are discussed before the work.

Deeply Absorbed Staining

Deeply absorbed staining in porous substrates may only partially respond, and older staining can behave differently than newer staining.

Recurring Source

If the source of the staining or deposits is still active — a sprinkler head aimed at a wall, a leaky irrigation line, a downspout arrangement — the visible condition can return.

Cleaning vs Restoration vs Repair

Different categories, kept separate.

Cleaning

Removal or reduction of visible surface deposits and staining where the substrate and condition support a treatment approach.

Restoration

Bringing a surface toward a specific target appearance beyond simple cleaning — typically involves multiple steps and additional assessment; scoped separately.

Repair or Replacement

Physical repair, patching, resurfacing, replacement, or coating installation is a different category. It is not part of a specialty cleaning scope and, where relevant, a homeowner is referred out.

Source Control

The source of the water is outside this scope.

Rust and mineral staining have a source. If that source is still active after the work, the visible condition can return. Correcting the source is a separate task — typically handled by an irrigation contractor, landscaper, or plumber — and Texas Pure Clean does not promise recurrence prevention through the cleaning scope alone.

Irrigation Direction

Sprinkler heads aimed at concrete, masonry, or glass can reintroduce staining or spotting after treatment. Adjusting direction is a landscaping/irrigation task — outside this service.

Irrigation Leaks

Leaky heads or lines can concentrate mineral or iron-bearing water in one spot. Repair is outside this service and typically handled by an irrigation contractor.

Water Source

Well water and municipal water can carry different minerals in different concentrations. What is in the water is a separate conversation from what is on the surface.

Drainage Path

Where runoff travels can concentrate deposits in specific areas. Adjusting downspouts, splash blocks, or drainage is outside this service.

Recurrence

Because sources are outside this scope, no promise of preventing recurrence is made. Where source-control changes are recommended, the homeowner can pursue them separately.

Water Access

Access to a working outdoor spigot is confirmed in advance for rinsing and dilution as needed.

Storm Inlets & Drainage

Communication

Common questions about rust & calcium work.

Can you get every rust or calcium stain completely out?+

No promise of complete removal is made sight unseen. Some staining reduces well; some leaves shadowing; some is progressed into the substrate as etching or surface damage and cannot be reversed by cleaning. What to reasonably expect is discussed as part of the assessment.

Isn't more pressure the answer?+

More pressure is not automatically the answer for specialty deposits. On concrete, stone, glass, and coated surfaces, higher pressure can cause damage without addressing the underlying deposit. Product selection, dwell, dilution, and rinse are usually more important than pressure alone.

What if the source keeps happening — like a sprinkler hitting a wall?+

Source control — adjusting sprinklers, fixing leaks, changing drainage — is outside this service and typically handled by an irrigation contractor or landscaper. Where the source is ongoing, staining and deposits can return, and no recurrence prevention is promised.

Is this the same as pressure washing?+

Do you treat hard-water spots on windows?+

Yes, exterior glass affected by irrigation overspray or hard-water spotting can be assessed. Older spotting that has etched the glass is a change in the glass itself and cannot be reversed by cleaning. Routine window cleaning is on the window cleaning page.

Can you treat efflorescence on brick or stucco?+

Whitish deposits on masonry are looked at case by case. Response depends on the substrate, the underlying moisture condition, and the age of the deposit. Where an underlying moisture condition is suspected, it is called out — cleaning does not address the moisture path.
